Synopsis

Mike Foster, a Canadian newspaperman, is en route to Budapest when in the Vienna airport he is approached by Ferenc, a man posing as a Hungarian refugee. Ferenc persuades Mike to deliver a package which, he says, contains medicine for his sister's ailing child in Hungary. When Mike arrives in Budapest, he discovers that he has lost the woman's telephone number and arranges a radio appeal for her address. At his hotel, he meets Suzan, an American fashion expert, and they fall in love. Mike is then approached by Ilona, who claims to be Ferenc's sister, and he discovers that the package contains not medicine but two forged passports. Ilona tells him the passports are for herself and her scientist father, Paul, who wish to escape to Austria. Mike agrees to drive them over the border in Suzan's car, but en route they are stopped by Ferenc and other police spies. Ilona, too, is exposed as a police agent, and they reveal their plans to capture Mike in order to use him as an exchange hostage for a Hungarian spy captured by the Americans. Before they are able to apprehend him, however, Mike disarms a guard and with Suzan and Paul crosses the frontier.
