Synopsis
William Wakefield, a popular headmaster, has applied for the headmaster's job at a new country school after spending 20 years at his present job. Because he is a kind and gentle man, none of his students want him to leave. They find out that Felicity Wheeler and psychologist Alistair Grigg from the Ministry of Education are coming to inspect the school to determine Wakefield's qualifications. They decide to sabotage the school's normal routine, thus ruining Wakefield's chances for the new job. The students employ a full range of pranks, from itching powder and booby traps to blowing up the restrooms. Their wild behavior comes to a climax at the school play, Romeo and Juliet, which they transform into a burlesque show. When Wakefield realizes the reason for the trouble, he is touched and agrees to stay.
