Synopsis

In the town of Clearwater, California, G-man Tex Weaver goes undercover and joins a gang of bank robbers ostensibly led by Buff Brayden, the local saloon owner. For six months, Tex has been working to uncover the secret leader of the bandits. Meanwhile, Tex's friend and former G-man, Tim Ross, poses as "Missouri," a sharpshooter in Doc Shaw's travelling medicine show. When Brayden's bank heist is foiled by local lawmen and Tex escapes into the hands of Tim, while the other gang members land in jail, Brayden begins to suspect Tex. Meanwhile, Tim trails gang member Runnyian across the border where Runnyian receives inside information from Enrico Gonzales about gunrunner Eduardo Martinez' next shipment. Brayden's plan is to rob the Bordertown bank after Martinez deposits his profits there. Runnyian's mistress, Goldie Harris, who has fallen in love with Tex, overhears the gang's plan to dispose of him and begs Tex to leave town. Loyal to Tim, however, Tex volunteers to be in his show to warn him, but Tex dies when an offstage bullet is fired simultaneously with Tim's. Fleeing town to escape public blame for Tex's murder, Tim rejoins the Department of Justice and receives orders to stop Brayden. In Bordertown, Tim apprises Martinez and Crowley, the bank's president, of Brayden's scheme, and learns that Brayden's mysterious boss is Willey Taggart, the territorial bank examiner. Posing as Jose Fernandez, an envoy from Gonzales, Tim tells Taggart that Martinez' shipment is early and asks Goldie to tell Crowley to expect the robbers. The next day, all converge in Bordertown, and the bandits are arrested. Although Goldie is shot in the shoulder during the fight, Tim promises to care for her in memory of Tex.
