Synopsis

Daniel Lanois, the Quebec-born artist and singer-songwriter who is also a very accomplished record producer, turns his considerable talents toward unearthing the source of creativity. Musicians including Bob Dylan, U2, Brian Eno, Peter Gabriel, Martha and the Muffins, Robbie Robertson and a host of others have turned to Lanois for guidance as they shaped their various creations. In his studio, a self-described "sonic temple," Lanois sets out to capture moments where improvisation leads toward that sense of the creative act and all that it means. As Garth Hudson and Brian Blade hunch behind piano and drums, Lanois picks away at acoustic or steel guitar to create that rich, reverberant sound for which he is so renowned. Meantime, Eno, a long-time collaborator and fellow musician, offers a unique perspective on the creative process.
