Director Vincent Ward was replaced in the seventh week of production by cinematographer Alun Bollinger, and resumed his helming duties during the post-production phase.

Production was suspended for six weeks when Samantha Morton was hospitalized with a severe case of influenza and a secondary bacterial infection. Shooting resumed October 4, 2004.
