Synopsis
Ruthie is a stunning woman in her early 40s; she lives with her daughter Or in a small Tel Aviv flat. After spending twenty years earning her living as a prostitute, Ruthie listens to Or's pleas and takes a job as a cleaning lady in an upper class house. Overcome with joy at her mother's decision, Or alternates between mindless jobs--washing dishes in a restaurant, cleaning staircases, collecting deposit bottles--and spending time with Ruthie. Their lives seem set to improve. While Or takes on a protective role in her mother's universe, both women share moments of strong intimacy and treat each other as equals. Whether showering together or sleeping under one blanket, Ruthie and Or grow inseparable; with each other, their emotions stay solid and intertwined. But as poverty and depression slowly re-enter their lives, Ruthie goes back to the streets of Tel Aviv's poorest neighborhoods. Her decision impacts Or, who has fallen in love with the son of a neighbor but is forced by the boy's mother to keep a distance from him. However, it is Ruthie who bears the biggest risk. She has now turned prostitution into a path to self-destruction. Disillusioned with her own life and unable to change her mother's precarious path, Or is now willing to do anything in order to improve their current situation.
