Based on the novel "All the King's Men" written by Robert Penn Warren; published by Bantam, 1959.
Robert Penn Warren's novel has been filmed twice before; as a feature (USA/1949) directed by Broderick Crawford and starring Robert Rossen and Joanne Dru, and as a HBO telefilm, entitled "Kingfish," starring John Goodman.
Meryl Streep was previously attached to play the role of Sadie Burke.
Columbia Pictures controlls the remake and feature rights of both the film (USA/1949) and the Robert Penn Warren novel from which it is based.
