Brief Synopsis

Moronao, a provincial governor in 18th-century Japan, is attracted to Kaoyo, the wife of a court magistrate. Moronao commissions a love poem to be written and sent to her, but she returns it with an admonition. He orders the magistrate into combat and begins to plan his seduction of Kaoyo the widow....

Synopsis

Moronao, a provincial governor in 18th-century Japan, is attracted to Kaoyo, the wife of a court magistrate. Moronao commissions a love poem to be written and sent to her, but she returns it with an admonition. He orders the magistrate into combat and begins to plan his seduction of Kaoyo the widow. The magistrate, anticipating Moronao's superior strength, takes Kaoyo with him to the battlefield. Moronao is enraged by the magistrate's cleverness and sends his army to kill the magistrate and bring back Kaoyo. To Moronao's chagrin, the army kills Kaoyo and returns with only her head.
