Synopsis

During a storm, a plane from Hawaii to Australia crashes on an uninhabited South Pacific island. Among the survivors are pugnacious pilot Steve Bannerman; Merle Barnaby, a black marine returning from combat duty in Vietnam; oil magnate Glenn Walkup; the magnate's mistress and secretary, Gina Talbot; nightclub entertainer Eddie Randolph; the lecherous bigot Jonesy; attractive Beejay Caldwell; a 10-year-old boy suffering from acute appendicitis; a pregnant woman; and a medical student. When the pilot rejects as unsafe Walkup's idea of setting out in a raft, he is brutally beaten by Walkup's henchmen. Manned by Randolph and two associates, the craft departs. A radio bulletin announces the cancellation of all rescue attempts as the barque returns, its crew half-dead. Attempting to escape Jonesy, Beejay falls from a cliff. Her panic-stricken assailant shoots Barnaby, accusing the black of Beejay's murder. Jonesy's victims recover, however, and expose him. The bigot escapes into the jungle, where he is accidentally impaled by Barnaby's animal trap. When a child is born the survivors unite to create a new society.
