Synopsis

Tomi works at a whorehouse and has a 19-year-old illegitimate daughter, Yumi, who goes to dressmaking school and is Tomi's one consolation in a life of broken affairs. Tomi's latest man, Yoshimura, forces himself on Yumi, and the enraged mother kills him and is sentenced to prison. Yumi becomes a hostess in a Ginza nightclub where she plays poker with men who may sleep with her only if they win, an event which rarely happens. Kada, the club owner, asks Yumi to become his mistress, but her devotion to another man, Nozawa, causes her to refuse until Nozawa makes it clear he will defer to Kada's wishes. Kada dies suddenly, and Nozawa impregnates Yumi so that she can claim the child as Kada's and thereby obtain Kada's fortune.
