Synopsis

Billy Milford, a Harvard graduate, works as a stationmaster in a Western town and courts the pretty Gunhild, a Norwegian immigrant. Because of his excessive drinking, Billy is fired from his post, but retaliates by robbing the company with his friend, Jim Dorsey, who then runs off with the money. Abandoned, Billy faces the police alone and avoids arrest but leaves town and Gunhild in his shame. Two years later, Gunhild meets Billy, now the operator of an Eastern farm, and love is rekindled. Jim also reappears, and his attentions to Gunhild as well as his blackmail threats force Billy to do battle. After an unsuccessful first attempt, Billy finally knocks his rival out and then confesses to the railroad superintendant his part in the crime, handing over his savings as restitution. Moved by Billy's honesty, the superintendant refuses the money, giving it to Gunhild as a wedding present instead.
