Synopsis

Jubal A. Bristol, like most of his Nashville neighbors, loves country and western music, even though his socialite wife fails to share his fervent interest. In fact, Mrs. Bristol is chairwoman for the city's biggest current social event, a benefit performance by an Italian opera company. At the last minute, the Italians are unable to appear, and Jubal is called upon to save the day by getting 30 top country entertainers to perform. The acts enthrall the audience, but backstage two inept stagehands create chaos when one of them dons a musketeer's outfit. Jubal, under the impression that the disguised bumbler is a member of the opera company, cracks him over the head with a mallet and hides the body. Nevertheless, the show is a tremendous hit and succeeds in converting Mrs. Bristol into a country and western music fan. Songs include : "Don't Let Me Cross Over," "Hello Walls," "John Henry," "Born To Lose," "Young Love," "Columbus Stockade Blues," "Honky Tonk Angels," "Ain't That a Shame," "Careless Love," and "Abilene."
