Synopsis

Secret agent OSS 117 is sent to Rio de Janeiro to investigate a series of explosions that killed several government leaders. The puzzling aspect of the case is that the crimes were committed by trusted assistants who also died in the blasts. OSS 117 arrives for a meeting with Thomas Ellis, chief of special agents, and is greeted by a woman claiming to be Consuela, Ellis' secretary. After escaping from a trap set by the imposter Consuela, 117 learns that Ellis has been hospitalized from a car explosion injury. At the hospital 117 meets Anna Maria, a friend of the wounded man, but before the two can speak to Ellis, he is murdered on the operating table by a man disguised as a surgeon. The secret agent and Anna Maria then find evidence of a plant which induces a hypnotic trance. Realizing that this was the method used to make the assistants kill the government leaders, 117 and Anna Maria go to Bahía to contact a tribe of Indians who extract the drug from the plant. Leandro, a friend of the tribe, offers to take them to the native village, but instead he takes them to the secret headquarters of an international organization planning world domination through use of the drug. When 117 and Anna Maria are taken prisoner because they refuse to join the conspiracy, Leandro, who is a member of the organization, has qualms of conscience and sends Brazilian Paratroopers to rescue 117 and Anna Maria and break up the organization's headquarters.
