Synopsis

Hickey is a professional card player who falls in love with Mary Moody, the daughter of a work-gang boss on the construction of the Canadian Pacific Railway. Hickey gives up his old ways, and agrees to work on the railroad to prove his love to Mary. His old friend, Steve, falls in love with saloon girl Lou, and she takes him for everything he has. In the end, Steve joins Hickey, and redeems himself by saving his old friend's life, at the sacrifice of his own.

This film was released in Great Britain under the title The Great Barrier. It was also known under the title Hell's Gateway. Life reported that the film was shot on location in Revelstoke, British Columbia during the summer of 1936. Modern sources indicate that additional footage was shot at Shepard's Bush Studios, London, and on location in South Africa.
