Synopsis
In the 30s, the owner of an unprofitable Silesian coal mine decide to close it down by flooding it, and the miners union strikes, occupying the pit. Even Jan, madly in love with and jealous of his pretty wife, takes part in the strike--which begins on a note of hope and high spirits but eventually looks to be broken by government indifference, starvation and despair.
