"Cosmic Voyage's" computer images breaks new filmmaking ground with the use of 'Virtual Director' developed specifically for this production by scientist Donna Cox and her team at the University of Illinois Center for Supercomputing Applications. The program 'Visual Director' literally puts the filmmaker inside the shot as he/she constructs the visual language of each image created; this is achieved by using three dimensional video images which are rear-projected on the walls, immersing the operator in the image to be animated.
