Synopsis

Jérôme Fenouic, a writer of children's stories, finds a corpse in the washroom of a vegetarian restaurant where he is dining with his Aunt Flo. He dons the dead man's hat and is mistaken for the man by Violette, a mysterious blonde woman. Following the murder of his neighbor, a series of promiscuous love affairs, and numerous unsuccessful attempts on his life, Jérôme gradually learns that he is involved in a gang war between Nirvana, a secret sect of cannibals run by Kouroulis, and a gang of opium smugglers led by Larsen, a cripple. Returning to the restaurant, Jérôme discovers the naked corpse of Violette--or perhaps Marguerite, her identical twin sister--who had been Larsen's mistress and is about to be eaten by Kouroulis's sect. With the timely intervention of the police, Jérôme helps subdue the fighting gangs and is reunited with Violette (or Marguerite).
