Synopsis
As a sociological experiment in rehabilitating young criminal offenders, a group of Stockholm juvenile delinquents are assigned to live in the home of Krister, a naive and idealistic young social worker. Except for the time spent in academic studies, the boys are free to do virtually anything they want but are required to report their activities each morning to a homosexual police inspector who exploits two of them. The violently anti-social Nisse establishes himself as leader of the group and, determined to negate Krister's continual kindness, prompts the boys to wreak havoc on the counselor's home. They break into the locked, hidden room where he keeps his piano, his heirloom furniture, and his treasured books, and they destroy what they cannot sell. One night a few of the boys, including Nisse, go in search of liquor and sneak aboard a docked German ship, where they meet a teenage prostitute, Steva. After watching a sailor brutally force her into an act of sodomy, they take her home with them. Steva stays with the boys, some of whom use her sexually, and she allows herself to be prostituted when they need money. Steva's ultimate degradation comes when she is forced to perform a sexual act with a German shepherd in front of the group. Finally shattered by the depravity surrounding him, Jingis, the youngest and shyest boy, commits suicide as Krister helplessly stands by.
