Synopsis

In order to win the hand of Helen Rogers, wealthy idler Billy Deering agrees to her father's wager - if Billy can keep a job for one month, Gordon Rogers will agree to the marriage; if fired, however, Billy cannot marry Helen. Billy is hired for an array of jobs, including office clerk and xylophone player, but he always quits just before being fired. Then he gets a job in a restaurant where he must don the costume of a knight in armor and pose as a statue. Into the restaurant come Mr. Rogers, Helen and Tom, a young man who also wants to marry Helen. Mr. Rogers, a railroad magnate, has arranged a merger of a railroad with a company fighting Tom's uncle. Tom knows where the deal's papers are hidden and arranges to have them stolen. Billy nearly gets fired, especially when Helen, who knows nothing of the wager, recognizes him in his knight's armor. Billy manages to stay at the job for thirty days, and in the process exposes Tom's scheme, and wins Mr. Rogers' consent to Helen's marriage.
