Synopsis

Princess Vera, while riding along the Volga River with her betrothed, Prince Dimitri, meets Feodor, a sturdy young peasant and boatman. With the rumblings of revolution, the castle of Prince Nikita is stormed, and a revolutionary is killed by a servant. Feodor, their commander, demands a life in exchange, and Vera is seized; but finding himself alone with her, Feodor lacks the courage to kill her, and she simulates death as the mob returns. Her life is spared when Feodor declares her to be his wife. When the White Army arrives, Vera is captured and Feodor escapes, but he is soon captured and held for punishment; Vera is presented for the officers' entertainment, but Dimitri orders her executed with Feodor. When the Reds take the town, they are saved; and the aristocrats are forced to pull a boat under the lash of peasants. Feodor takes Vera and Dimitri to the border and gives them their freedom, but Vera breaks from Dimitri and hurries after Feodor through a snowstorm.
