Synopsis

When Princess Fedora's fiancé, Vladimir, is found murdered in a deserted summer house on his father's estate, Fedora sets out to find Loris Ipanoff, a nihilist whom she suspects of having killed Vladimir. She meets Loris and, not knowing who he is, falls in love with him. Discovering his true identity, she comes to believe him innocent of the murder. He later confesses to it, however, and Fedora betrays him to Vladimir's father; she then discovers that Loris killed Vladimir (who had violated his sister) in self-defense, and she protects him against the assassins hired by Vladimir's father. Loris' family is ordered to Siberia, and his brother is slain resisting arrest; Loris turns against Fedora, and she takes poison. Contrite, Loris returns to Fedora in time to hold her in his arms as she breathes her last.
