Synopsis

The miserliness of Martin Stanley, a man of considerable wealth, reduces his wife, Louise, and his daughters, Diana and Marjorie, to desperate measures. Diana poses for painter Paul Howard, thereby incurring the jealousy of her sister, who is in love with the artist, and the wrath of her mother, who sells some clothes to repay Diana's wages to Paul. To further complicate matters, Paul tries to break up Diana's happy romance with Bobby Arnold by altering his painting of Diana to suggest that she posed indecorously. Learning of Paul's designs, Marjorie attacks him, resulting in Paul's apparent death and Bobby's knowledge of the painting. Stanley finally realizes the consequences of his penury, Diana's danger of arrest for Paul's murder passes when the artist revives, and the family's happiness is increased by the reconciliation of Bobby and Diana.
