Synopsis

Trilby, an artist's model and habituée of the Latin Quarter, meets Little Billee, an English art student, who falls in love with her. On the night of their engagement, Svengali, a wild musician with hypnotic powers, hypnotizes Trilby and takes her away, presenting her as a concert singer. Months later, Billee, who has abandoned his search for Trilby, attends a theater where "Madame Svengali" is billed. Trilby appears and triumphs in her first number; then Svengali has a heart attack and Trilby sings without his influence--ruining her reputation. Trilby is reunited with Billee, but the strain of her career has exhausted her and she dies.
