Synopsis
A tenement fire brings about an investigation by Ralph Spencer, fire inspector, who condemns the Marsden buildings despite political opposition. Without knowing of the condemnation, wealthy welfare worker June Weldon buys the buildings from Marsden, converting one into a mission. A fight ensues when Ralph goes to inspect the buildings, and Ralph tells June of Marsden's scheming. Marsden plots to frame Ralph by planting money on him in a nightclub; the money is thought to be a bribe, and Ralph is dismissed as a result. Spurlin, a club owner, becomes suspicious of Marsden's relations with his wife, and in a confrontation a fire breaks out; Ralph rescues June from the burning building, and Marsden dies in the conflagration. Ralph is reinstated and happily reunited with June.
