Synopsis

In this "modernized" version of the familiar story, Oliver's mother, cast off by her family for marrying against their wishes, dies in childbirth, leaving only a locket as a clue to his identity, and the child is brought up in a New York orphanage. Aged 17, Oliver is persuaded to run away by Monks, who promises him a good home, but he falls in with a gang of thieves headed by Fagin. They discover the whereabouts of the boy's wealthy grandfather, James Harrison, but during a robbery attempt Oliver is shot and found on the grounds by Ruth Norris, who befriends him. After learning his identity, he finds happiness with Ruth.
