Synopsis
Patrick O'Brien, a young soldier returning from France, arrives in New York with no money and no prospects. He sets out to walk the 40 miles to his upstate home and, partway there, he gets a ride with Mary Van Tassler, a beautiful and wealthy young woman from his hometown. Patrick returns to a warm welcome but no job. He finally finds work in a garage, where he invents a device to improve carburetion by separating water from gasoline. Patrick begins to see a lot of Mary, much to the annoyance of both her snobbish aunt and the fiancé someone picked out for her. An old Army buddy markets Patrick's invention, and they both become rich as the result. Patrick asks Mary to marry him. She accepts, and they receive the blessing of her family.
