Synopsis

Cecily Stoughton, a pampered rich girl, loves Ted Pyncheon, a struggling country physician, but her mother plans to marry her off to Coults-Browne, a wealthy man, and conspires with him to prove to Cecily that riches are essential to happiness. Ted invites Cecily and her mother to a weekend at the home of his sister, Agnes Wheaton, in the town where he practices; through Mrs. Stoughton's machinations all goes wrong, and when the maid becomes ill, Cecily and her mother are forced to do the housework; thus, Ted has little time for his sweetheart. The engagement is broken, and Coults-Browne invites Cecily to a party at his palatial home; but she is unimpressed by the tinsel glamor and drunken gaiety and is forced to leave on foot. Stopping to rest, she discovers Ted, battling to save the life of a boy struck down by Coults-Browne's automobile; realizing her love for him, he is reconciled with and marries her.
