Synopsis

Though they are old enough to know better, John and Myrtle Herrington keep pace with their son, Jack, on his endless round of drinking bouts and jazz parties. When Jack encounters Cathleen Gillis, a childhood chum who has just returned from boarding school, he begins to follow her around. Cathleen's father, Martin Gillis, objects to Jack's attentions to his daughter and warns the girl against him. Despite this advice, Cathleen is attracted to Jack and tries to reform him; he promises to give up his way of life but soon relapses. Cathleen forgives him; and, in need of, and filled with love for, each other, the young couple elope. Martin Gillis, angered by his daughter's sudden marriage, pays a visit to the elder Herringtons and bitterly condemns the quality of their lives. John and Myrtle at first resent the attack; but, when Gillis leaves, they slowly become convinced of the error of their ways and decide to act their age.
