Synopsis

Mary Ryan, a reformed thief, encounters Jane Loomis, a friend, on a train; and Jane confides to Mary that although her uncle has invited her home with his family, she has decided to elope. Mary gets off at the town where the uncle lives, conceals her identity, and introduces herself as his niece. Judge Loomis, an upright man, has a son, Donald, who, Mary discovers, has ruined one of the village girls. She plans to expose him, but he locks her in a closet of his invalid sister's bedroom; the sister is then cured of her lameness in an attempt to stop him. Mary saves the village physician, Dr. Randall, from angry villagers and exposes Donald. After divulging her identity to Randall, whom she loves, she is forgiven and accepted by the uncle.
