Synopsis

Happy-go-lucky Jim Fenton is in love with Miss Butterworth, the town milliner, who is taking care of little Harry Benedict while his father Paul, an inventor, is in the local insane asylum. Miss Butterworth convinces Jim that Belcher, one of the town's prominent citizens, has incarcerated Paul to steal the patents from his inventions. Jim breaks into the asylum and spirits away the enfeebled inventor, conveying him to his cabin in the woods where Paul gradually recovers. Later, Jim goes to Belcher to claim the reward for the missing Paul, escorting him to the inventor's alleged grave where Paul plays ghost and terrifies Belcher into a confession. Suit is then brought against Belcher in Harry's name, and at the critical moment, Paul appears and proves that he has been defrauded. Belcher is arrested on a charge of forgery, and Jim learns that Miss Butterworth returns his love.
