Synopsis

Yearning for adventure and romance, jaded New York millionaire Roland Van Dam, goes to New Orleans during the Mardi Gras. There he is mistaken for Emile Le Duc, a recently escaped prisoner, by a cousin whom he has never met, the attractive Madelon Dorette, because Roland's costume includes a red gardenia, which Emile was to wear. Emile's counterfeiting gang, thinking that he is going to betray them, captures Roland, but he escapes. When Emile dies, Madelon, convinced by the gang that Roland is a secret service man and has killed Emile, entices Roland to the home of her vile old uncle, the gang leader. She discovers that Roland is innocent after it appears that both of them have no way of escaping death. During an interrogation, however, Roland secretly dislodges a telephone receiver from its hook and conveys the situation to the operator, who transmits the call to the police. Once saved, Roland, having now found adventure and romance, marries Madelon.
