Synopsis
After failing in several businesses, Ben Slowbell is threatened with foreclosure of his latest mortgage when Alonzo B. Keene, a shady character from the city working in collusion with village skinflint Uriah Jobson, persuades Ben with promises of oil to buy some worthless property. But the property proves to be valuable to another man, and Ben sells it for a tidy sum, thanks to the clever bargaining by a servant girl (The Slavey), whom Ben realizes to be his "one and only."
