Synopsis

Amos Burden, an Australian sheep rancher, fulfills a promise to his deceased mother and goes to visit his Uncle David, an artist, who lives on the Riviera. Despite his lack of polish and finesse, Amos attracts the attention of Nadia, an exiled Russian princess, and the two soon fall madly in love. Nadia then tells Amos that she is married to Ramón García, an unprincipled scoundrel who forced her into marriage by promising to save her family from the Russian reign of terror. García later kidnaps Nadia and takes her to an island fortress, attempting to have his way with her by locking her in a dungeon that is rapidly filling with water. Amos follows them to the island and rescues Nadia. Foiled by his own devious design, García himself drowns in the dungeon.
