Synopsis

When Revolutionary War hero Richard Cartwright is mortally wounded by Indians invading his property, Father Ambrose, as a last resort, uses a trick he learned from the Hindus: he places Richard in a state of suspended animation and then buries him. By 1916, Richard's property has been developed into a large coal mine, and bombs set off by disgruntled workers unearth his coffin. He wakes up and finds that the current landowner, another Cartwright, has ignored the tradition of fairness that Richard had established and has been exploiting laborers for years. Feeling the revolutionary spirit once again, Richard leads the workers against the owner. The laborers win, but Richard dies in the struggle, along with the owner. The land now passes to the owner's son Dick, who exhibits the same qualities of fair-mindedness and justice as his patriot ancestor.
