Synopsis
After discovering a faith in God, the beautiful, ragged Glad, a child of the London slums, convinces her sweetheart Dandy, the cleverest crook in London, to reform. Meanwhile, the richest man in the world, Sir Oliver Holt, a cantankerous cynic, is told by three specialists that he has an incurable ailment that will soon leave him insane. Desiring death, but not wanting to disgrace to his family, Sir Oliver disguises himself as a tramp and enters the slums, where he plans to shoot himself. He meets Glad, whose simple faith and cheerfulness lead him to attempt a recovery. After Dandy is accused of murder, Glad approaches Sir Oliver's nephew, who can prove Dandy innocent. When she refuses his demand of sex for the alibi, he attacks her, but Sir Oliver's arrival and Glad's admonishment make him ashamed. Sir Oliver pledges himself to a life of charity, and Glad and Dandy are reunited.

This film was re-issued January 26, 1919. Paramount Pictures released a remake of this film, produced by Famous Players-Lasky Corp. in 1924, directed by George Melford, and starring Jacqueline Logan and Raymond Griffith. (See AFI Catalog of Feature Films, 1921-30; F2.1234.)
