Synopsis

During the sixteenth century, French palace officials tell Julie De Varion that they will free her father, a Huguenot sympathizer, if she captures Ernanton De Launay, an enemy of the king. At an inn, Julie speaks with a man who promises to take her to Ernanton, as he believes that she simply wants to meet the famous fugitive. The stranger, who is himself Ernanton, falls in love with Julie and kills his servant for insisting that she is a spy. Finally, Ernanton discovers that Julie does indeed work for the king, but because Julie has fallen in love with Ernanton, she refuses to expose him when she returns to the palace. Ernanton, however, having followed Julie there, gives himself up in order to free her father. Finally, the Huguenots storm the palace, free Julie's father and help Ernanton escape, after which he and Julie plan their marriage.
