Synopsis

When the Harlow family is forced to take in summer boarders, young Tressie welcomes the change and promptly falls in love with Boston society youth Norman Minot, who returns her affection; but prospects are clouded by the arrival of a fortune-hunting mother and daughter. Kitteridge, an artist friend of Minot's, takes an interest in Tressie, and while they are sailing one evening their boat is rammed by a steamer. They are rescued and put ashore in Boston the next morning. In his studio, the artist tries to make love to Tressie, but Dolly, an athletic vaudeville actress, intervenes and thrashes him. Norman, warned of the disappearance, arrives to take Tressie home, and they announce their engagement.
