Synopsis
After inheriting the Blue Goose mine in Colorado, Kate Saxon goes West to manage her property. She arrives as rioting miners and a sheriff's posse are engaged in a battle. After quelling the disturbance, Kate adjusts wages and working conditions. A friendship quickly develops between Tom Baxter, the sheriff and a wealthy cattleman, and Kate, which is encouraged by old "Bells," the mining engineer. Consequently, when the women suffragists urge Kate to run for sheriff, she is reluctant at first to oppose Tom, but finally accepts and wins the election. Tom, to test her mettle, has one of the cowboys tell her that he bought votes in the election, thus violating the law. She arrests him and Tom, and when Tom sees that she is in earnest about enforcing the law, he acknowledges that the story was false. Kate frees him, but will not forgive the lie. As she rides off, Tom follows her and they are caught in a cattle stampede when labor agitator Tremble dynamites the reservior. They race for their lives, and when all danger has passed, Tom professes his love for Kate but she spurns him until old Bells finally brings about a reconciliation.
