Synopsis
Clara and Patrice Verly live in Lyons with their 8-year-old daughter, Julie. Frustrated in his attempts to make a name for himself as a photographer, Patrice concludes that he will have to go to Paris to further his career, and Clara reluctantly agrees to a separation. The passage of 3 years finds Clara bored with her provincial life; and she also moves to Paris, taking the precocious Julie with her. Although Clara has an amicable reunion with Patrice, who has not had much luck in Paris, the long separation has driven them apart, and they decide to remain friends rather than live together. Enrolling Julie in school, Clara takes a sales job which leads to a beauty contest and ultimately to a successful modeling career. Despite the active social life she now leads, Clara remains discontent, partially because of Julie's demands on her time and the child's unwillingness to accept men other than her father. After Patrice has finally made his mark as a television photographer-director, Clara decides to try to win him back. But when she searches for him in Paris coffee shops and finds him in the company of two girls, she doesn't even stop to speak to him. Upon learning that she is to be sent to America on a modeling job, however, she once more seeks out Patrice, and for the first time since their estrangement they are able to set aside their false pride and communicate. With their love rekindled, Patrice drives his wife and daughter to Orly Airport, confident that when they return they will be a family once again.
