Synopsis

Jeanne and Jacques Labordie grow up in the Canadian north woods with their widowed father Henri, who only shows affection towards his son. One day, while Jeanne and Jacques are out canoing, they capsize. François, a half-breed who loves Jeanne, is able to rescue her, but Jacques drowns. In order to save her now blind father from a fatal shock, Jeanne cuts her hair and pretends to be her twin brother. When Donald Duncan, her secret fiancé, hears that Jeanne has died, he leaves in despair. Soon, Henri dies and Jeanne is left to carry out her father's wish that "Jacques" visit old family friend Duval Hebet in Montreal. Resuming female attire, Jeanne is shocked to learn that her father had promised her in marriage to Hebet's now dissipated son Louis. She encounters Donald again, however, and through François' unselfish aid, she finally is reunited with the man she loves.
