Synopsis

While working in a coffeehouse, Syrian immigrant Anna Ayyob falls in love with Howard Fisk and discovers that her employer ("The Baron") is involved with Count and Countess Rostoff in smuggling jewels. Anna has an encounter with the baron and, thinking she has killed him, disappears. Later, after writing a widely popular novel, Anna again meets Howard and, to save Howard's sister from marrying Count Rostoff, exposes the count and confesses to the baron's murder. Investigation discloses the baron to be alive; Anna and Howard marry.
