Synopsis

Richard Chester, a mineowner in the South, is engaged to Ethel McVae, a poor girl. He is secretly loved, however, by Sally Lockwood, his secretary. Chester's mine is threatened by bandits, and his foreman, Joe Pelton, who cares for five motherless children, saves Chester's life but is himself mortally wounded; and his dying request is that Chester adopt his children. Since Chester's fiancée does not agree to the adoption, he places the children in schools except for the baby, which is cared for by Sally. The day before the wedding, Chester and baby contract mumps, and when Ethel finds Sally nursing them both, she breaks the engagement. Chester gathers the children and plans to be a bachelor daddy, but finding that he needs Sally's help, he falls in love with her and marries her.
