Synopsis
The Washington Opera production of Puccini's "La Rondine," with a new tragic ending and rediscovered text. Magda, who has settled into a life of luxury as the companion of a wealthy banker, Rambaldo, meets Ruggero, an earnest young gentleman from the provinces, and is immediately entranced by him. Magda's chambermaid Lisette carries on a parallel secret affair with Prunier, a cynical poet, in the debauched surroundings of Paris. Taking refuge by the sea, Magda and Ruggero live in bliss, poor but happy, though Magda still fears revealing her past. Love is put to the test when Ruggero offers marriage.
