Synopsis

The grandfather in a close-knit family, recounts the legend of Santa on a snowy Christmas Eve. While on a pilgrimage in Spain, St. Nicholas, a Christian bishop, is persecuted for his Christianity and arrested. In jail, St. Nick meets Pete, a young Black Moor working as the prison cook. They become friends and Pete springs St. Nick from jail. Pete joins St. Nick on his pilgrimages of helping those in need, especially before Christmas, and as years pass, the children grow to love Pete just as much as St. Nick. Now the time comes to spread the Christmas spirit to the New World. In New Amsterdam, St. Nick and Pete face many obstacles, but find help in such curiosities as a bunch of wandering reindeer, a huge open sleigh and a bright red suit. As Christmas quickly approaches, St. Nick, by now known as Santa Claus, and Pete must not only keep their promise to those they've vowed to help, but also spread the message of Christmas to the children and families of this new frontier.
