Synopsis
The rags-to-riches tale of country music queen, Tammy Wynette, from her impoverished childhood to country's First Lady and her two rocky marriages to fellow superstar George Jones, who had been her childhood idol. TV's answer to "Coal Miner's Daughter," the Oscar-winning film about Loretta Lynn, "Stand By Your Man", gave Annette O'Toole the starring role and allowed her to do her own singing rather than dubbing in Tammy Wynette. (Initially it had been scheduled to premiere on March 31, 1981, but was bumped from the schedule when that year's Academy Award telecast was delayed by one night and moved into the film's slot.)
