Synopsis

In 1987, "Nova" embarked with seven individuals on the nearly decade-long process of training to be a fully qualified doctor. The plan was to follow these seven members of the entering class at Harvard Medical School throughout their training, giving periodic updates on the intricate and exhausting process of becoming a board-certified physician. Now, all seven are out in the world in high-powered medical careers, trying to balance the demands of work, families and personal lives. "Tattooed Doctor" features Tom Tarter, an emergency room physician at Bloomington Hospital in Indiana. A native of Bronx, New York, Tarter started medical school at the relatively advanced age of 31. "Second Opinions" features physicians Jane Liebschutz, an internist at Boston Medical Center; Cheryl Dorsey, director of Public Health Initiatives for Danya Corporation; and David Friedman, an ophthalmologist specializing in glaucoma at Dana Center for Preventive Ophthalmology at Johns Hopkins University. "Hearts and Minds" features physicians Jay Bonner, a psychiatrist at McLean Hospital in Belmont, Massachusetts; Luanda Grazette, a cardiologist at Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston; and Elliott Bennett-Guerrero, an anesthesiologist and director of Cardiac Anesthesia at Columbia Presbyterian Medical Center in New York City.
