Synopsis
Los Angeles and Mexico are in the grips of a dire heat wave that is literally frying human and animal life. Dr. Evan Thorne is convinced that an actual hole in the Earth's protective ozone layer is moving up the Pacific coast, but his views are considered to be so inflammatory that neither the Mayor nor Thorne's nemesis and former research partner, Dr. Schiffren of the Atmospheric Research Council, takes his predictions seriously. With time running out, Thorne must enlist the help of his sister Jennifer, a top mayoral aide; her pilot boyfriend Racer; John Morgan, a burned-out television journalist; and a few loyal colleagues to persuade the Mayor and save the city. Together they must persuade city and national officials to allow them to launch the experimental ORB, Ozone Replenishing Bomb.
