Synopsis
Scotty Corrigan and Debra Zabrinskie are a young, modern couple in the midst of planning their upcoming wedding. While shopping with Debra for a wedding dress in an antique store, Scotty finds himself drawn to an oak desk and decides to buy it. In the desk drawer he finds a letter written by Elizabeth Whitcomb, dated April 16, 1863. Something in the letter strikes a cord with Scotty. He becomes obsessed with finding out all he can about Elizabeth and eventually finds the Whitcomb ancestral home. When Scotty shares his discovery with his mother Beatrice, she convinces him to respond to the letter. Beatrice, a romantic and a believer in time travel, supplies her son with an antique pen, a bottle of ink, vintage postage stamps and the address of a Civil War-era post office. Scotty and Elizabeth begin to exchange letters, developing a romance so powerful that it transcends time.
