Synopsis

While in a museum of modern art, Rodney Hatch, a barber, places the engagement ring he bought for his girlfriend, Molly, on the finger of a statue of Venus. Magically the statue comes to life. Learning of Rodney's love for Molly, Venus banishes her to the North Pole and sets out to win the reluctant Rodney's love. Finally, when Venus does win Rodney's love -- but realizes what a dull life she will have, she returns to being a statue. Molly, returned from exile, breaks her engagement to Rodney. Shattered, Rodney returns to worship the statue of Venus. The story concludes with Rodney meeting a girl who resembles the statue. Based on the musical by S.J. Perelman and Ogden Nash (from F. Anstey's story "The Tinted Venus").
