Synopsis
Performance of Stravinsky's 1927 opera, "Oedipus Rex," based on Sophocles' tragedy as staged by Julie Taymor at the Saito Kinen Festival in Matsumoto, Japan. Oedipus, the beloved king of plague-ridden Thebes, in his attempt to discover the murderer of the previous king so that the pestilence may subside, learns he himself was the assassin. In addition, the murdered king had been Oedipus' father and his queen (Jocasta), whom Oedipus later married, Oedipus' mother.
